Hotflash Game - Illustration, Design & Packaging

A fun lighthearted
approach to Menopause, Hotflash is a game that allows women to get
together to laugh about physical changes and learn about noteworthy
women in history while also learning a bit more about each other.
Hotflash! was designed and illustrated through Vanguard Communications
in the summer of 2003.
Design
of the board started with squares leading the players through the
game, but circles lent themselves better to the concept of the game.
Colors were also important in the design and layout, as both elements
needed to be full of life, and had to work well with the illustrations
placed throughout the board; six paths, the beginning, end and logo.
Two decks of cards, Raging Hormones and
Hotflash, were designed and incorporated to provide both a look
and feel of the rest of the game. One deck speaks of historical
facts and information about menopause and women's issues that move
you forward or backward throughout the game, while the other deck
is full of eye-opening, personal questions that can give you a "hotflash."

Along with the decks of cards were token
cards or pawns that players choose to represent themselves as they
travel along the board. Nine in all, the token cards personify objects
of womanhood such as tampons or foodstuffs they crave at certain
times, such as chocolate. These illustrations were also used to
illuminate the packaging.
This project was a lot of fun and very informative.
It will be available for sale at www.hotflashgame.com
(which was also designed and programmed by Morgan Mann). If you
